*Launch of CELT Teaching Innovation Grants & CELT Learning Innovation Grants*


Since 2008, the CELT Learning and Teaching Grants have enabled over 100 individual and group projects to be developed, resulting in innovation in academic and professional practice, enhancements in the student learning experience and research contributions.

Continuing this focus, the new CELT Teaching Innovation Grants and the CELT Learning Innovation Grants will promote the collaboration between staff and students while also promoting opportunities for students to gain work-experience and enhancing their work-focused skills.

CELT Teaching Innovation Grants are one year, staff-led grants of up to £3000 (£2500 per project + £500 bursary for student work-experience) to support team projects involving staff and at least one student.  CELT Learning Innovation Grants are student-led grants of up to 100 hours of student work-experience to support team projects involving students and at least one staff member.

Workshops to support the development of bids will take place on April 24th, 11am - 12noon (Caerleon) and April 25th, 11am - 12noon (City).  The closing date for the submission of bids is Wednesday, 2nd May 2012.  Application forms and further details are available at CELT Enterprise (https://my.newport.ac.uk/moodle/course/view.php?id=2329) or through CELT Activities (https://my.newport.ac.uk/moodle/course/view.php?id=2323).

CELT: Academic Practice Self Study Guides

Academic Practice have launched 2 self study guides on Moodle.

The self study guides on Assessment and Feedback and the Inclusive Curriculum are aimed to provide a quick overview of the topics and include prompts for further reflection, suggested reading and video case studies.

HEA STEM: Getting Started in Pedagogic Research

This workshop will be aimed at staff from STEM Subjects interested in developing their teaching activities and their understanding of student learning with a view to research leading to publication. The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to consider educational (pedagogic) research in a scientific context and how this relates to their own practice.

HEA STEM: Innovative Approaches to Student Engagement

This workshop aims to identify and examine some of the factors that impact on student engagement - both positively and negatively, share experiences of novel attempts at promoting student engagement and explore the potential for radically new strategies to promote student engagement.

HEA: The Land of Make Believe: Creating the Enterprising Marketing Graduate with Distinctive Skills and Attributes, 19 April 2012, University of Glamorgan

The overall focus of this session will be the concept of the Enterprising University. The session will also explore evidence-based approaches being used at Glamorgan Business School, and will share results of research into student perceptions of initiatives such as the Student Marketing Chapter, Glam Gift, ‘Make an Impact’ Week, ‘Experience Works’ Week and other initiatives that have been designed to support the development of both employability and enterprising skills in our marketing students. These initiatives, and student feedback on the skills they believe have been developed as a result of engaging with them, will be showcased throughout both the main session and lunchtime poster event.

HEA: Teaching Development Grants: Project Development Workshop, 26 March 2012, University of Glamorgan

The aim of this workshop is to increase understanding and applications of bids submitted to the TDG calls, and to increase good quality submissions from institutions in Wales.

HEA: Surveys for Enhancement Conference – Call for contributions

The HEA is hosting a one day conference on 17 May 2012 in Nottingham, on the theme of: Using student surveys to enhance the student learning experience. Contributions are sought for presentations and workshop sessions on any issue relating to the use of student survey data for quality enhancement. Please submit your proposals by 12 March 2012.

HEA: Teaching Development Grants and Teaching Development Grant workshop

Teaching Development Grants – Collaborative Grant Scheme call now open and Teaching Development Grant workshop

The collaborative grant themes are internationalisation or employability. A total of £570,000 is available, with a maximum of £60,000 per project. Collaboration may be cross institution and/or interdisciplinary. The project lead must be a Fellow of the HEA. The call closes 22 April 2012. The HEA is also running a Teaching Development Grants workshop on 26 March 2012 at the University of Glamorgan. The workshop will cover what the TDG process has to offer, understanding the funding calls, the selection process, writing successful bids, and discussion, group work and networking opportunities. Further details will be made available shortly.

HEA: Using simulation to encourage a more inter professional approach to health care education (part of the Health Sciences Workshop & Seminar Series 2012), 22 June 2012, Glyndŵr University

This workshop will demonstrate how collaborations between Glyndŵr University, the North Wales clinical school and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board encourage commitments to improving patient safety from a health care perspective.

CELT Conference

A Date for your Diary - Monday 11th June 2012

The CELT Conference and the CELT Awards will be held on Monday 11th June 2012.

The conference will be held over both campuses.  The morning at City Campus and the afternoon at Caerleon Campus, followed by the CELT Awards.  This will be an excellent opportunity to experience learner centred activities and developments involving internal and external contributors.
